Ambidextrous reliever Pat Venditte will be called up to the A's for this weekend's series in Boston, attempting to become the first "switch pitcher" to appear in a major league game since 1985.
Venditte, who opened eyes in spring training by pitching well with both arms, has gone 1-0 with a 1.36 ERA in 17 appearances for Triple-A Nashville.
A source confirmed for CSN California that Venditte will get his first major league call-up after seven-plus years of pitching in the minors. He was drafted by the Yankees and signed a minor league deal with the A's over the winter.
