TORONTO -- Following a detour from Colorado Springs to Nashville to grab his passport, Tyler Ladendorf arrived in Toronto on Friday in time to join the A's for their series opener against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.
The utility player takes the roster spot of third baseman Danny Valencia, who went on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain, retroactive to Thursday.
Ladendorf, 28, has limited big league experience; he totaled four hits in 17 at-bats over nine games for the A's last year. But the club has always valued his ability to handle essentially every infield and outfield position with above-average defense.
