CHICAGO - With utility player Chad Pinder going onto the disabled list with a strained left hamstring, the A’s called up top prospect Franklin Barreto on Saturday morning.
The Chronicle reported Friday night that Barreto’s promotion was likely this weekend after Pinder left the team’s win over the White Sox in the fifth inning.
Barreto, 21, was acquired in the trade that sent third baseman Josh Donaldson to the Toronto Blue Jays after the 2014 season. He is batting .281 with eight homers and 32 homers at Triple-A Nashville, where he is 7 for his past 15 with two walks.
