A’s call up prospects Matt Olson, Renato Nunez

With Triple-A Nashville falling to Oklahoma City on Sunday night, the Sounds’ season is over and Monday morning, Oakland called up first baseman-outfielder Matt Olson and third baseman Renato Nunez, both 22.

Olson, a left-handed batter, hit .235 with 17 homers, 60 RBIs and 71 walks with Nashville and he was third in the league in doubles, with 34. Nunez hit .228 with 23 homers and 75 RBIs, and he hit three homers and drove in 10 runs in the Sounds’ five playoff games.

With the A’s wanting to get a look at some of their younger players, Monday’s moves point to diminished playing time for Yonder Alonso at first base, while first baseman-outfielder Danny Valencia potentially could be released, as The Chronicle reported in Monday’s editions following Billy Butler’s release.
