OAKLAND — The A’s made a swap Saturday by calling up outfielder Jaff Decker from Triple-A Nashville and sending down struggling Mark Canha.
Decker, who was batting .387 in Nashville, was immediately inserted into the lineup after getting only about five hours of sleep. His flight landed in Oakland about midnight.
“It was either that or 6 a.m. this morning,” Decker said.
He was notified of the call up after receiving a phone call from Nashville manager Ryan Christenson Friday night.
“It was short, but a nice phone call to get,” Decker said.
After almost making the team with an impressive spring training, Decker is glad to be coming up at a time when he thinks he is swinging the bat well.
