SEATTLE — With rosters expanding Friday, the A’s activated catcher Josh Phegley and outfielder Jake Smolinski from the disabled list and called up left-hander Sam Moll and infielder Franklin Barreto.
At one point, Barreto was on the bubble when it came to a September call-up; the club wanted the top prospect to push for a promotion - and he did. Barreto was 17 for his past 35 at Triple-A Nashville.
The 21-year-old, obtained in the Josh Donaldson deal with Toronto, hit .190 with two homers and four RBIs during his one previous stint with Oakland from June 24-July 7.
