PEORIA, Ariz. — The A’s must have really missed seeing Matt Chapman’s name in the starting lineup.
With the third baseman making his spring debut, the A’s decided to break out with five home runs on Sunday in a 12-4 drubbing of the Padres to snap their five-game losing streak. Josh Phegley, Franklin Barreto, Mark Canha, Kevin Merrell, and Anthony Garcia were the five A’s who homered.
“No matter what, when you suit up to play a Major League Baseball game, you want to win,” Manager Bob Melvin said. “You want to play well and do the best you can, but it’s always nice to mix in some wins.
