ST. LOUIS — Once the Oakland A’s started playing National League baseball Tuesday night, they beat one of the league’s best — historically and this season — at its own game.
A double-switch by manager Bob Melvin in the bottom of the fourth inning set the stage for fireworks — back-to-back home runs and then a two-run double, by pinch hitting slugger Khris Davis — in the top of the fifth en route to a 7-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in the interleague game at Busch Stadium.
Oakland plated six runs after the double-switch, which was National League strategy through and through.
