OAKLAND — Two rookies making their sixth big league starts, the Tigers' Michael Fulmer and the A's Sean Manaea, matched up Friday, each man perhaps offering a glimpse of the future for his team.
Manaea pitched well enough, but Fulmer was simply terrific, throwing a one-hitter for seven innings before tiring in the eighth inning of a 4-1 Detroit victory.Oakland has lost seven of its last eight games to tumble to a season-low nine games under .500 at 20-29 and sit nine games out of first place in the American League West. The Tigers have won nine of their last 11.
