MESA, Ariz. – Liam Hendriks is nobody’s idea of a refugee.
The 28-year-old A’s reliever is, however, an immigrant from Australia working in the United States. And he says the way immigration policies have been turned upside down in the first weeks of the presidency of Donald Trump “is scary from any point of view.”
Hendriks has been playing baseball in the United States professionally for a decade and lives in Florida in the offseason. He doesn’t have a green card, that piece of proof that a person is a lawful permanent resident of the U.S. with full immigration benefits.
