The A's announced Thursday they have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with left-handed reliever Ryan Buchter, avoiding arbitration.
A source told NBC Sports California the deal is worth $1.4 million, plus an awards package, which is in line with the $1.3 million he was projected to get in arbitration.
Buchter, 31, is currently the only lefty in the A's bullpen, so his return was critical. Last season, he went 6-0 with a 2.75 ERA and 1.20 WHIP, notching 41 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings and earning just $555K. He was especially effective in August and September, allowing just two runs in his final 24 appearances.
