OAKLAND — It doesn’t matter what team he’s playing for, Bartolo Colon will always have a special place in A’s manager Bob Melvin’s heart.
Colon, who at 44 continues to be an ageless wonder, got the start for the Texas Rangers Monday night at the Coliseum. Having had the chance to manage Colon from 2012-13 with the A’s Melvin finds himself getting a little less surprised each year the big right-hander continues to find his way onto a team and pitch at a high level.
“He’s a marvel,” Melvin said. “He continues to do what he’s always done, maybe at a little lower velocity now and mixing his pitches up a little more than he has in the past.
