The Oakland Athletics have hired two architectural firms to design a new ballpark either at Howard Terminal or the Coliseum site, according to The Athletic and San Francisco Chronicle.
Danish firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) will lead the design process, A’s president Dave Kaval told The Athletic on Wednesday. Gensler, which is working on the Chase Center, the Warriors’ San Francisco arena, will assist.
The Bjarke group describes its approach as “pragmatic utopian.”
“We wanted someone who could really blow the doors off conventional thinking when it comes to design,” Kaval said. “And not just the ballpark, but also the district around it.
