On Tuesday, the Oakland Athletics released their choice for PA announcer: Amelia Schimmel.
The 34-year-old Schimmel filled in for Dick Callahan last season while there were no fans at the stadium. She's officially taking over the role for 2021 after Callahan's death in January. (Callahan, a Bay Area fixture, was the A's PA announcer for 15 seasons.)
Schimmel is the third-ever PA announcer in A's history after Roy Steele and Callahan, and is the team's first female PA announcer. She's worked for the A's since 2017, previously as a producer of game entertainment and video content. Before that, she worked for MLB Network for eight years as a producer and editor.
