MESA, Ariz. — He’s only made two appearances this spring, but top prospect A.J. Puk has been by far the most impressive pitcher in A’s spring training.
Yet to allow an earned run over five innings, Puk was dominant again in Saturday’s 10-4 loss to the Padres as he allowed just one hit while striking out three batters through three innings of work.
“He’s throwing the ball where he wants to. Real smooth delivery. He’s been really impressive,” Manager Bob Melvin said. “He’s the one guy that’s putting up zeroes for us.”
