The 2016 MLB Draft is just three days away and the Oakland Athletics have the No. 6 overall pick. But just who are the Athletics targeting during the first round?
MLB.com's Jane Lee reports the A's are looking at outfielders and starting pitching in the first round.
"The A's have done well in replenishing parts of their farm system in the past year through a multitude of trades that netted them several exciting young players," Lee writes. "They're still lacking in upper-level starting pitching, though, and could use an added dose of outfield talent as well. Both could seemingly be had early in this year's Draft."
Lee names four players that are likely at the top of the A's draft board. They are Mercer OF Kyle Lewis, Tennessee 3B Nick Senzel, high school lefty Jason Groome and high school OF Mickey Moniak.
Chat Sports' mock draft has the A's landing Lewis. Senzel could go as high as No. 2 to the Cincinnati Reds, and he's the least likely of the three players. But that at least gives the A's a decent shot at landing an OF or pitcher. If those four players are off the board, it's unclear what Oakland will do in the first round.
