If there is one common theme becoming clearer every week with the direction and decisions the College Football Playoff committee uses to form its weekly rankings, it’s that style points matter.
And that’s clearly the area that caused Notre Dame to tumble from “solidly” holding down one of the four coveted playoff spots one week ago to the outside looking in at No. 6 this week, leapfrogged by No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 4 Iowa and No. 5 Michigan State. The top two teams — No. 1 Clemson and No. 2 Alabama — remained unchanged for the third straight week.
