On Saturday, Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly got up close and personal with assistant coach David Grimes in an act that has people wondering whether Kelly had any ill intent.
Grimes was speaking to the official when Kelly stormed in, grabbed him by the shirt and pushed him back into the sidelines.
According to Tyler James of Notre Dame Insider, Kelly says he was worried that Grimes would get the team a 15-yard penalty.
“I had to control the sideline. I wasn’t going to let that happen.”
There’s been no details as to the nature of Grimes’ conversation with the official, but Kelly is implying Grimes was disputing something and wanted to avoid any argument that could be detrimental to the Fightin’ Irish in a close game with the Temple Owls.
