Former Santa Clara men’s basketball player and McDonald’s All-American nominee Trey Wertz announced that he would be transferring out of Santa Clara recently. Among the schools that he had an interest in transferring to were North Carolina, Arizona, Butler, and Notre Dame.
Many people anticipated that Wertz would ultimately select the University of North Carolina because his father had graduated from there and he was from Charlotte, North Carolina so the move would be a homecoming of sorts.
Ultimately, Wertz announced that he would be transferring to Notre Dame to continue his collegiate basketball career, citing the strong academic standards at South Bend and head coach Mike Brey’s coaching style as the two main reasons for selecting Notre Dame over the other schools on his list.
