Notre Dame and Texas met for the first time since 1996 when the Irish defeated the Longhorns with a last second field goal, 27-24. This year, under the lights at Notre Dame Stadium, the Irish started the season with a bang and an overwhelming victory, 38-3.
The Fighting Irish blitzed the Longhorns in the first half, scoring the Texas 17-0. The key to Notre Dame’s success in the first half was Junior Quarterback Malik Zaire who passed for 144 yards and one touchdown.
