Notre Dame’s spring football game kicks off at 12:30 p.m. ET today, marking the first time that the Irish will don their game jerseys since the passing of former university president Father Theodore Hesburgh. Notre Dame’s various athletic teams wore “Father Ted” patches throughout the winter and spring seasons, and today, the Irish football team will be doing the same.

Hesburgh was a beloved figure in the Notre Dame community, and one of the most important figures in the school’s history.
