The Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team has jumped out to first period leads against the Syracuse Orange for two consecutive years, only to see their ACC rival dominate after halftime.
Last year, the Irish outlasted the seventh ranked Orange at home in overtime. On Sunday, fourth ranked Syracuse (10-2, 3-1 ACC) spoiled eighth ranked Notre Dame’s previously unblemished season by scoring five second period goals and prevailing 10-9.
The Irish (9-1, 2-1 ACC) controlled the first half of the game, paced by sophomore midfielder Maddie Howe and senior attack Samantha Lynch with three goals each. Notre Dame won 8 of 14 draw controls in the first, turned the ball over fewer times than their opponent and ripped off 13 shots on goals to Syracuse’s 7.
