The Notre Dame Fighting Irish hit Madison ice to redeem Friday night’s 4-2 loss to the University of Wisconsin Badgers, and avenge this season’s opening series, but ended the game with a 5-5 tie. While fans saw the Irish structure begin to solidify since showings against Penn State and Ohio State, the Notre Dame penalty kill was the team’s downfall at the end of this series.
First Period
Neither the Irish nor the Badgers wasted any time trying to edge past the other’s offense. The Badgers eventually outshot the Irish 24 to 19, but it was Notre Dame’s Trevor Janicke who snatched the first goal of the game just about five minutes into play.
