The Notre Dame Fighting Irish converted 45 of their 52 red zone opportunities into scores during their run to College Football Playoff last year — and yet that wasn’t even close to the best.
We recently acquired data from Sport Source Analytics, so I compared every team that had 50 or more red zone chances in 2018 to see how the Irish stacked up against other teams. The Irish ranked 24th in converting 86.5 percent of their opportunities. (The national average was 83.8 percent.)
