Sometimes things just don’t go as planned.
My personal example was third year of Russian language at Notre Dame. I’d gotten through the intro and intermediate courses well enough. I showed up to the first day of class during my senior year expecting things to go well, too. But let’s just say that the combo of the senioritis effect (I had intentionally front loaded my coursework freshman-junior years) and the rule that Russian was the only language we’d be able to speak during a class that met midday three times a week immediately adjusted those expectations.
