Backup quarterback DeShone Kizer connected with Will Fuller on a 39-yard scoring strike with just 12 seconds remaining to lift Notre Dame to a hard fought 34-27 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers. The Irish fell behind by 27-26 with just under two minutes to go in the fourth quarter when Albert Reid scored from one yard out to cap an 80-yard drive. Kizer, who took the helm when Zaire suffered a fractured ankle in the third period, rallied the visitors for a long, improbable scoring march in eight plays during the final sequence to shock the hosts.
Notre Dame started the game in strong fashion and rode a powerful ground game to build a 12-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
