With a record home crowd at a constant fever pitch, the Louisville Cardinals humbled Notre Dame with a 33-20 beating that was even more convincing than the final margin would indicate. The Fighting Irish offense was dysfunctional all evening while poor tackling and an unforgiveable penalty on Marist Liufau undermined the defense. Tailback Jawhar Jordan scored twice on second half runs of 45 and 21 yards while Louisville’s defensive front absolutely stuffed Notre Dame’s ground game. The Irish gained only 43 yards rushing all evening on 25 carries.
This loss drops Notre Dame to 5-2 on the season and was sufficiently decisive to end any hope of playoff consideration.
