The Notre Dame Fighting Irish split their series with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks Saturday with a 1-0 loss. This followed Notre Dame’s 4-1 win against Alaska Fairbanks on Friday.
First Period
Alaska Fairbanks set the tone early on and fired six shots at the Irish net in less than two minutes. Notre Dame’s Henry Nelson soon headed to the box for interference, but the Nanooks did not capitalize on the power play. Irish defenseman Ryan Helliwell received a game misconduct for cross-checking after the whistle about 12 minutes in. Notre Dame rallied to kill off the penalty, but the teams stood scoreless at the period’s end.
