Earlier this spring, the Baltimore Orioles announced that former Notre Dame first baseman and current Orioles right fielder, Trey Mancini, had left the team to deal with a medical issue. At the time, it was unknown what medical issue Mancini was facing but given the suddenness and tight-lipped nature of the situation, it seemed concerning.
On March 6, Mancini was diagnosed with colon cancer, which prompted him to have to leave the Orioles during Spring Training. On March 12, he would undergo surgery to have the cancerous mass removed from his colon.
Recently, Trey Mancini announced that doctors had diagnosed him with Stage III colon cancer and that he had begun chemotherapy treatment on April 12.
