Notre Dame may have stolen a march in the battle to sign Tyler Luatua, a four-star TE prospect out of La Mirada HS in La Mirada, California. At 11:06 pm EST on September 22nd, Luatua made a (now deleted) post to his Twitter account, reading
@Luatua9: "And the shady business just started....No More OHIO STATE"
It's unknown what Ohio State did to earn such a public denial, but Luatua (the #2 TE in his class, according to Scout.com) has apparently narrowed his list to Alabama, Notre Dame, Texas, and Arizona. Alabama and ND appear to be the frontrunners at the moment, but not long after the deleted tweet, Luatua retweeted this from Notre Dame fan Paul Nelson:
@Luatua9 The only games #NotreDame will play with you will be on the field. #GoIrish!!!
— Paul Nelson (@NDIrishManiac) September 23, 2013
Retweeting a fan is far from a commitment, but it's clear that Luatua is considering Notre Dame very seriously at this stage.
Luatua has an official visit to South Bend scheduled for the weekend of October 19th, when the Irish host USC.
