Fall camp is over for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, but that doesn't mean every questioned has been answered. SB Nation was at Notre Dame fall camp and here are the three biggest question marks left.
Who Replaces Jarron Jones?
The loss of Jarron Jones is a tough one for Notre Dame. Jones was going start at nose guard and now Notre Dame needs a new starter. It will likely come down to either Daniel Cage or Jerry Tillery. Both will likely play and both have potential. However, giving major playing time to a sophomore and freshman with a combined four tackles isn't something Notre Dame wanted to do this season.
Who Starts At Strong Safety?
Elijah Shumate, Drue Tranquill and California graduate transfer Avery Sebastian are all competing for the starting spot at strong safety. Sebastian is a heady player, but might not be the greatest in man coverage. Shumate started last year, but wasn't consistent. Tranquill is the youngest and has the most potential, but is coming off an injury and is behind the other two.
How Will Malik Zaire Play In The Pocket?
There is no question Zaire is a great athlete who can run the ball and throw it on the move. However, what's not clear is how he'll operate from inside the pocket. Zaire is the undisputed starter with Everett Golson now at Florida State. If Zaire can play well and limit his turnovers, Notre Dame can make a run at a College Football Playoff berth. If not, Notre Dame will win eight or nine games again this year.
