Norwich City’s pre-season campaign concluded with a 2-0 defeat against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
In what was a competitive outing, it was goals either side of half time from Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle that decided the contest.
Norwich came closest to scoring through Pierre Lees-Melou, but ultimately drew a blank in a game that provided more valuable minutes in the tank for many players ahead of next week’s Premier League opener against Liverpool.
Following a period of self-isolation, City welcomed back Teemu Pukki to substitutes’ bench. Jordan Hugill, Grant Hanley, Bali Mumba, Milot Rashica, Onel Hernandez and Przemyslaw Placheta were all sat out, serving the final days of their respective COVID-19 isolation periods.
