Bournemouth look to have won the race for Norwich defender Max Aarons, the PA news agency understands.
Leeds had agreed a deal with the Canaries and the England Under 21 international looked set to move to Elland Road.
But Bournemouth made a late move on Wednesday - with the initial fee understood to be £7million rising to £12m - to scupper Leeds boss Daniel Farke's hopes of a reunion with Aarons, who he gave a senior debut to at Norwich.
Southampton held a long-standing interest and also struck a deal with the Canaries - following Tino Livramento's move to Newcastle - but could now also miss out.
