Defensive end Xavier Washington has been suspended indefinitely by the Northwestern football program after being arrested for cocaine possession on Sunday.
The Daily Northwestern reported that Evanston Police was called to investigate a disturbance off-campus at 3:30 am on Sunday and found Washington, who fled on foot, in possession of 0.5 grams of cocaine on his person.
Washington was charged with one felony count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
School officials said they were investigating the matter but declined to comment further.
Washington, who will be a senior in 2017, had 4 sacks and 7 tackles for loss last season as a critical part of Northwestern’s defensive line.
