Softball: ‘Cats sweep Iowa after loss to DePaul

Northwestern (25-7, 6-0 B1G) swept Big Ten rival Iowa (15-15, 1-5 B1G) this weekend after DePaul broke the Wildcats’ five-game winning streak Wednesday.

Two stellar outings from pitcher Danielle Williams and a solid start from Kaley Winegarner propelled the ‘Cats to 5-0, 6-2 and 6-0 wins in Iowa City, allowing the ‘Cats to maintain their undefeated conference record and improve to 25-7 overall, the team’s best start since 2007 (per NUSports.com).

Game one between Northwestern and Iowa was a tight one, with both Williams and Hawkeye pitcher Allison Doocy dueling until the seventh inning. Both pitchers gave up zero earned runs entering the final frame with the only run scored by Northwestern’s Emma Bartz off of an error.
