No No. 16 seed has ever beaten a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. It's a well-documented fact that gets brought up often year after year in March. And we're one game away from the streak living on to see another year.

Many articles were written prior to this year's tournament hinting that we could finally see a 16-over-1 upset. FiveThirtyEight wrote about it. So did the Wall Street Journal.

Thursday, three-quarters of the dream died. In the afternoon, Virginia and Kansas easily discarded Hampton and Austin Peay respectively. In the evening session, North Carolina only led Florida Gulf Coast by 1 at halftime, but blew Dunk City away in the second half.
