Welsh-Ryan Arena said goodbye to one of the greatest players in Northwestern basketball history as it honored Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah before Tuesday night’s game against Indiana.
Kunaiyi-Akpanah became the second Wildcat ever to reach 1,000 career rebounds against Minnesota last Thursday. Only Nia Coffey has more career rebounds. The senior is averaging 11.1 points and 11.2 rebounds per game in 2018-19 with 15 double-doubles. She is tied for NU’s single-season record for double-doubles, with 18 last season.
Kunaiyi-Akpanah’s teammates and coaches shared their favorite memories of the senior in a video the program tweeted out.
Escorted by her sister and her brother-in-law, the Abuja, Nigeria native was congratulated by Joe McKeown, Jim Phillips, and Morton Schapiro at center court in a pregame ceremony.
