Northwestern football will add two graduate assistant coaches for next season, including former Wildcat defensive end Deonte Gibson, a program release announced Thursday.
Gibson, who last played for the Wildcats during the 2015 season, signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent last spring, but was cut before the season began. He signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad late last December, but his move to the Northwestern coaching staff will all but end his brief NFL career.
As a team captain in 2015, Gibson recorded nine sacks and 38 tackles, earning third team All-Big Ten recognition.
