Nia Coffey selected by the San Antonio Stars with the No. 5 overall pick in the WNBA Draft

Former Northwestern star Nia Coffey has been selected by the San Antonio Stars with the No. 5 overall pick in the first round of the 2017 WNBA Draft.

Coffey, a forward from Hopkins High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, finished her Northwestern career with 2,287 points, just 20 shy of Anucha Browne’s program record. Coffey is the all-time leader with 1,183 rebounds and 496 free throws made. She is second in program history with 229 blocks.

The first Northwestern player to ever be selected to an All-Big Ten First Team all four years of her career, Coffey was also a two-time AP All-American Honorable Mention.
