On Monday, the National Labor Relations Board dismissed a historic ruling that would have allowed NCAA athletes to unionize.
The decision overruled a decision made back in March of 2014 made by a regional NLRB director that had given the go ahead for Northwestern University football players to unionize.
Monday’s ruling however, did not decide the crux of the argument and that debate will stay rage on….the debate being whether college athletes should be treated as employees.
In an article by Michael Tarm of the Associated Press on NCAA.com, the NLRB explained their decision:
“Although we do not decide the issue here, we acknowledge that whether such individuals meet the board’s test for employee status is a question that does not have an obvious answer,” the NLRB said.
