They tell us in journalism school not to bury the lede, so here are two truths that frustrate diehard wrestling people everywhere:
The Olympic Trials, set for this Friday and Saturday in Texas, will feature significantly more talent than the recently contested NCAA Championships, but will attract only a fraction of the audience (readership, viewership, social interaction, etc.).
That sucks. Let's talk about it.
When we say "significantly more talent," here's what we mean: There are 72 wrestlers who qualified for the men's freestyle competition at the Olympic Trials this week. Of those 72, all but two were NCAA All-Americans, and 38 of them were NCAA champs.
