UNI's Karter Schult named conference defensive player of year

In a season that saw his Northern Iowa football career cemented as one of the most dominant in program history, Karter Schult continues to rack up the accolades.

Another honor was added Wednesday, when the Panthers defensive end was named the Missouri Valley Conference defensive player of the year, marking the second straight season a UNI player has won the award (Deiondre Hall, 2015) and seventh time under Panthers coach Mark Farley.

Schult dominated all season. He currently leads all Division I levels — FBS and FCS — in sacks (17) and accounted for at least one quarterback takedown in 10 of UNI’s 11 games this year.
