TOPEKA, Kan.--- Northern Iowa sophomore Olivia Chambers captured her second Para American record at the Kansas Classic. The record breaking swim came in the finals of the 400-yard individual medley, breaking the S13 record by nearly six seconds with a 4:29.27.
The previous record of 4:35.16, held by former Fairfield University and current U.S. Para National team member Colleen Young, stood since December 2018.
Chambers has battled to achieve a best time in the 400-yard individual medley for nearly four years. Her previous best time of 4:32.77 came just prior to going blind. The record breaking swim moves Chambers from seventh to third in Northern Iowa program history.
