CEDAR FALLS, Ia. — For any mid-major school opening the college basketball season against a Division II foe, one word describes a best-case scenario.
Uneventful.
No injuries, no upset bids, nothing other than a comfortable runaway win. That’s exactly what Ben Jacobson got Tuesday evening.
Northern Iowa had little trouble with visiting Bemidji State, rolling by the Beavers, 97-51, on opening night at the McLeod Center. Four Panthers (1-0) scored in double figures as UNI built a 20-point lead in the first 10 minutes. There wasn’t much resistance from there.
AJ Green poured in 16 points in his much-anticipated UNI debut, showcasing the range and court presence that has his stock sky-high.
