Bob Bowlsby, the Big 12 Conference commissioner, said a lot in just a few words in an email to the Register on Friday morning:
“It is certainly a sad time for our country and for college athletics.”
He’s talking about the life-and-death coronavirus pandemic that’s continuing to surge. He’s referring to how lives are changing daily and even hourly, and yes, he’s also concerned for what it means for college athletics this fall.
Already, the Ivy League said no fall sports will be played. Voluntary football workouts have shut down temporarily at a number of schools, due to outbreaks of COVID-19, and then came Thursday’s announcement:
No Big Ten non-conference opponents this fall.
