CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Three Panthers scored in double figures, and the UNI women's basketball team opened the season with a 67-40 exhibition win over Upper Iowa Saturday and as Panther fans have come to expect, the UNI women earned the win on the back of their defense.
The first quarter was a back and forth affair, but UNI held a one-point, 15-14 lead after the frame. The Panther defense stepped up in the second quarter when the Peacocks managed just six points on 3-14 shooting from the field.
The third quarter was much of the same on the defensive end with the Panthers holding Upper Iowa to eight points on 3-12 shooting from the field while the Panthers extended the lead to 58-28.
