ST. LOUIS — He spent most of the night as a quiet spectator, but A.J. Green rose up amid a rough game to keep Northern Iowa’s season afloat.
Green’s jumper with 12 seconds to go propelled the No. 6 seed Panthers to a 61-58 win over No. 3 Southern Illinois in Friday’s Missouri Valley Conference quarterfinal. With the victory, UNI gets No. 2 seed Drake in Saturday’s 5:05 p.m. semifinal.
Iowa’s two MVC schools haven’t met in St. Louis since 2010.
Green finished with just six points on 3-for-8 shooting in his Arch Madness debut, but he saved the heroics for last.
