CEDAR FALLS — Will McElvain is moving on.
The Northern Iowa quarterback and former Des Moines Lincoln standout entered the transfer portal Monday morning, the Register has confirmed after McElvain sent out a farewell tweet around 10:30 a.m.
"Thank you, UNI," McElvain wrote. "My recruitment is open."
McElvain started the entire 2019 and 2020 seasons when healthy and began 2021 in the same spot, only to lose his job to backup Theo Day Week 2 at Sacramento State. Day orchestrated a second-half comeback that night and hasn't relinquished the job since. The Panthers (3-2) are 2-1 with Day as the starter.
