BROOKINGS, S.D. — Merely three weeks after suffering a crushing 31-point beatdown at the hands of South Dakota State, Northern Iowa got its revenge.
Northern Iowa ended South Dakota State’s season in the second round of the FCS playoffs on Saturday with a 13-10 victory at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.
The Jackrabbits started strong, scoring on their first drive, forcing a quick three-and-out and adding a field goal to go up 10-0, then they never scored again. Matthew Cook’s 18-yard field goal with just over two minutes left gave the Panthers their first lead, and while SDSU had time to answer, they couldn’t get across midfield, ultimately turning the ball over on downs with under 30 seconds to go.
