CEDAR FALLS, Ia. — Doug Schwab put his own funny spin on Northern Iowa’s wrestling media day as he wore a black sports coat over a black team T-shirt for the opening statements of the 2016-17 season.
A bit of banter with familiar faces as he sat down further loosened up the small West Gym crowd. Then his passion for this season’s team and the development of second-year wrestlers turned Tuesday serious.
The Panthers are ranked among the nation’s top 20 in the preseason, and Schwab is adamant that nine talented redshirt freshmen and one seasoned sophomore can raise them even higher.
